Can you see any advantages to having a doula at a home birth?

home massage
Do your own thinking! asked:

With two midwives in attendance, it seems like overkill.

I don’t care for massage or most other forms of fussing-over, and figure the father-to-be will be the one fetching me peeled grapes and the like.

So I’m not sure I can see a use for one at a home birth, but people keep asking if I’m going to have one — would there be advantages I’m missing?
I am not asking for input on home birth.

*I* would rather avoid the extremely high risk of IATROGENIC complications.

To each their own, though.

“Can you see any advantages to having a doula at a home birth? ” Not for ME I can’t. But I LOVE massages and would take one anytime. I wouldn’t have a home birth…call me old fashioned but I liked the security of bein in hospital…especially since my daughter was an emergency C-Section and I had general anesthetic…Only way I’d do birth again if I ever had a second one…LOL

the privacy and comfort of your own home.. but i am not very optimistic.. though it sounds good, id like to have the security of a hospital and high technology in case something needed further attention.
